weddings, valentines and lurve

Back to home page

Weddings are incredible life events: there's joy, tears, drink, songs, dancing and speeches.  By asking customers to fill in a form and give information about themselves, Dave creates poems which genuinely reflect the couple: their likes, their dislikes, their characters and their passions.  A poem is a carefully crafted piece of language art to frame and keep.  For an additional fee, Dave is more than happy to read the poem at the event itself.

joined together - round the bend

time for a purple wedding - in - di go
one says sorry - one's cheeky to the end
one's star - one's smiley faced - we know
the both will join together - round the bend

one says sorry - one's cheeky to the end
both blue and purple silver - dog and cat
and bread and bacon aftershave
                                                depends
on how you look at each of each - how's that?

one's star - one's smiley faced - we know
who's rock god - who likes to listen all
and son-shine in the middle - love's to know
all busy to the hilt - now wedding calls

both will join together round the bend
we wish them well - we're cheeky to the end

green hearts

so time to be serious – our hearts in the green
what you’ve given (my monkey) is where I’ve never been
what springs out our allotment – let wildlife leave be
what dinners get burnt – it don’t matter you see

and what you’ve given (my monkey) is where I’ve never been
this love’s from my green heart (but won’t cause a scene)
what surrounds us this day are witness to all
not just people – but woodland – the sound of bird call

what springs out our allotment – let wildlife leave be
let green lives sing light in their tones of the trees
you’ve noticed no jokes – it’s serious then
my green heart keeps beating – again and again

what you’ve given (my monkey) is where I’ve never been
so time to be serious – our hearts in the green

the lilacs soft

between my hands - the lilacs soft
alive - my fingers feel the roots beneath
sugar and pepper - they tell me stuff
what music's sung through summer's teeth

alive - my fingers feel the roots beneath
my questions come - why are you there?
blue - purple - red - such colours deep
can't live without the fragrance near

sugar and pepper - they tell me stuff
what seasons give i'm grateful for
anemones small and sweet enough
i thank the garden (i'm out of doors!)

what music's sung through summer's teeth
alive - my fingers feel the roots beneath

living on biscuits

surprise me - i know you're my surprise
i'd live on biscuits if i thought i could
what compass points your way and eyes
draws me to you (as so it should)

i'd live on biscuits if i thought i could
i'd hear the monkey howl and sense the heart
my love unlimited flowing in the blood
a science fiction wave that plays its part

draw me to you (and so you should)
i'd live on biscuits if i thought i could

ankle deep in love

ankle deep in love – the mirror reflects the dancing smile
we fit our world and know we nuzzle deep
the laura ashley ways – we’re in a cocktail style
(those legs go on for days – those cutest feet!)

we fit our world and know we nuzzle deep
you’re my marj simpson (I’m your derren brown)
we take our dreams and mix them – and share within our sleep
you’re my sunshine red that always knocks me down

the laura ashley ways – we’re in a cocktail style
december brought me joy (as did august too)
now valentine and chocolate will be a constant smile
what bambi brings i return with I love you

(those legs go on for days – those cutest feet!)
we fit our world and know we nuzzle deep

glowing purple

out the rough patch into sparkle
cheerful gen'rous warm and thoughtful
dark blue purple crow's a laughing
creative ways are always clapping

inspiration keeps you going
out the dark times into glowing

sea exploding

let the sea explode
let it make whatever sound
it needs to draw the earth into
its soul

let me be the sea
know by the time
that when i have left
the margins of the world
i will come back
and make your dreams return

this sea is not the way
the sea expects the sea to be

the dreams return
the sea explodes

the brown eyes and the lilly

he and her – her and he
both struggled deep and found each need
both felt the time that never sleeps
and sensed the weight of the earth

who wears the socks – one pink – all odd?
who’s secret then – a closet goth?
a lily sweet? (she’s got the lot)
dark chateaus where love’s never blind

who drives in green – a row of tents?
who’s sandalwood – a scent (intense)?
in millibleams – how much is meant
what more can she say? (i don’t know)

brown eyes she says – he sees her clear
the secret past (the nows and heres)
they saw themselves when love appeared
unfathomless (the sense is profound)

two join as one – such pleasures grow
the prejudice (that hit below)
it matters not – life has its goes
he’s happy – she loves him to bits

a garlic and marmite refrain (for L and R)

who’s marmite – who’s garlic – who’s curry
who’s trickster – who’s blond (you’re soooooo funny)
and who shops and spends all the money?
perhaps the secret will out

who’s hugo (the boss) and who's calm
(like an aga that keeps us all warm)
who’s red – and who’s kind – bluebell dawn-ed?
between them – they know where they stand

who’s grown up – who’s changed – who’s  mischievous
who’s purple – who’s woodland – and who’s tease - ious
who’s sleepy and laughing (o how devious!)?
the two of them walking as one

a wedding day blossoms at last
what’s steeped in the past – was a blast
with fire in their souls (built to last)
the beats keep on beating their song

so here’s to nine years in their hearts
(though numbers are starters (for starts))
o cupid (you ticklish dart)
raise laughter then call up a toast

the biggest grins - a wedding on four wheels

well - he lycra’s her and she lycra’s him
he’s her real david bailey
so she’s got the biggest grin
and the flavour of rain doesn’t matter
on two wheels or on four
while camping or caravanning
          the friendship's grown secure

and she’s his purring pussy cat
and he’s her gentle hands
for the flavour of rain doesn’t matter
they’re always on dry land

and she’s got the biggest grin
while he’s got the quiet smile
the second chance – the homely glance
goes stretching on for miles

there’s wheels within these wheels
he’s grandad – she’s a mum
there’s a and b – they come for free
are smilings for the sum

so the honeymoon comes first –
the celebration’s now
the turning wheels have spoken
the lycra takes a bow

increasing circles
(commissioned for the wedding of
mick and fay)

two words collide - where steps he - she follows
then bang - she turns around and bumps to him
each word is merged to other - myth swallows
myth - daft ouroboros sings some strange hymn

then bang - she turns around and bumps to him
contact made - each trusts themselves into the ring
the richness lies in living (though money's slim)
from round the edge we hear two visions sing

each word is merged to other - myth swallows
both - brings them further in to centre's heart
but time grows quick - each hates the shallows
and quests to swim a newer depth and thought

now dreamscapes lie in house - with visioned eyes
the doorway welcomes more and grows four-wise

a quadratic wedding-athon limerick for greg and jean
(to be sung)

there’s comings and goings round here
there’s roundings - so come on – drink beer
there’s greg and there’s jean
no space in between
to squeeze twopence
they’re in love’s what I mean

there’s roundings - so come on – drink beer
there’s comings and goings round here
the wedding that’s on
is for dancing and fun
and poetry – shout loud and clear!

there’s goings and comings round here
so come on – there’s roundings - drink beer
for jean and for greg
two close matching eggs
they’re clucky – let nestlings be near!

so come on – there’s roundings - drink beer
there’s goings and comings round here
like gin and like tonic
(though this poem’s chronic)
their hearts are for dancing that’s clear

there’s comings and goings round here
there’s roundings - so come on – drink beer
there’s greg and there’s jean
no space in between
to squeeze twopence
they’re in love’s what I mean....
